How to Prevent your Xbox Controller from Turning Off

Xbox One Controller Side ViewI’ve read the forums and articles and I don’t think too many described it well. This is not intended to keep a game like Cities Skylines going while you sleep. I’d imagine it could still time out due to inactivity, but I haven’t tested that.

This is for those of you who are using wheel and pedals and have no use for the controller except to plug in your headset/microphone into the audio jack.

Step One

YOUR CABLE MUST BE ABLE TO POWER AND SYNC. Power alone won’t work. You don’t have to go all fancy. I realized after using a power only cable, that the same cable I use to charge my cellphone works. I got it at Walmart, about 6 feet for less than $7.

Step Two

It must be plugged into the Xbox (Hubs Work Too). That is essentially it. I ran into the same problem with the shutoff after fifteen minutes over and over and realized it was the cable. This will work. You don’t have to keep batteries in the controller, but it won’t use your batteries if you do. There is no setting on Xbox to delay the shutdown of the controller like the machine itself. This is the only way known for it to work. Comment if you need help.
